There was a news program about the jet air tankers. They fly out of
McClellan Airfield in Sacramento. The rent on the plans - when not flying,
just on stand-by - is $30,000 per day and they carry 20,000 gallons of
retardant at a cost of $2 to $3. per gallon. When they are in the air or
loading, the costs go up.
