[SEL] Battery stuff

Jim:

Practically speaking, if it can't be recharged using a charger that supplies a constant 2.3 volts per cell for a long time, it's toast.

Interestingly, I have a couple of 7 A.H. gel cells that came out of 'puter UPS units that are maintained at 2.25 volts per cell and still have about 90% of their original capacity after almost 15 years of service. Also very interesting is the fact that the batteries that caused the sets to be replaced failed after about five years. They were all made by the same company, of the same specification and made with the same date code.

Of course - I replaced all the batteries when even one croaked. Foolish to do otherwise. The survivors are used for ignition, etc.

Take care - Elden
