This is for the HP rings. The rings consist of an outer iron ring and an
inner stainless steel spring. Both are compressed and placed into this
fixture. The fixture is then placed in the counterbore and affixed in place
with set screws. You can see the set screw tabs in the pic. The ring is
then pushed out of the fixture and into the bore and up against the piston.
The pistons were multiple part construction with followers which bolted on
the piston to hold the rings in place.
The LP rings are in three segments and are just manhandled into the bore and
onto the piston. Then small leaf springs are individually placed between
the ring and piston. Then the follower is put on after the springs are in.
Some year I'll bring this stuff to Coolspring and show it off.
