Hi Arnie,
Some still do use centrifugal unloaders but they are the High end machines
where a real 5 hp will cost you $2500- $3500. Very few people on the list
have ever actually seen a good high end machine in real life for sale on a
sales floor. As a rule what you see on a sales floor today from Harbor
Freight to the big box stores is a compromise for a real compressor. A lot
of compromises made to deliver a compressor unit at a competative price in
a very competative market. Most of the time when you wonder why you don't
see something, all you have to do is think money and thats where the answer
usually lays.
Two of the big names in cetrifugal unloaders was Curtis and Ingersol
Rand. The Curtis is external mechanism and the Ingersol is internal.
Top end Quincys are oil pressure unloaders. The Quincy system is a
SWeeeeeeet unloader.
If you ever seen and heard a Quincy in operation the way they were intended
you would simply fall in love. Yah just do not want to be moving them
around much, they are a brute of a machine, but oh so sweet.
