One of the problems in changing over to a single-phase motor is the
much heavier starting current required, especially when starting
against pressure in the tank. A start/run motor with a separate
starting winding might be too heavy on current for a domestic supply.
The phase changer using a 3-phase motor and capacitors is a good way
to go, and is invariably cheaper than buying a new single-phase motor,
assuming you can get one the right size and mounting.
