Hi all
This engine is for sale, but have a look at the spark coil, does anyone
recognise it, I do !!!

It is out of what is called an eddy current coupling/drive unit, you turn
one shaft with an electric motor and the output shaft has no connection to
the input shaft. As you apply current to the coil it induces a magnetic
field into the rotor of the output shaft and it turns. The more current
through the coil, the faster the output shaft, the difference from input to
output speed is called the SLIP. Not a very efficient drive compared to
modern variable frequency drives and the like, but simple and a simple
control circuitry. The part in the picture here goes inside a drum with very
small air gap.
I used to work on these on variable speed conveyor belts in the sugar
industry, around 30hp. The larger units have a water cooled coil.
The coil is rapped around an iron circuit and that is all that is needed to
create a spark when the ignitor point open. It would make a great sparking
device and a great talking point as most people would have no idea what it
is.
Thought I would share.
