Navistar is working on hydraulically actuated valves. If Ford sticks with
them as their diesel engine supplier the F series will have these engines
within a few years

Several Diesel manufacturers have electro-hydraulic valve actuation on  
over-the-road truck engines today.  They have been in use for a couple of
years 
now, mostly without incident.  I think Cat was the first, but a few  of them

have it now.
