[SEL] gas tank cap

I lost my original gas cap going down the road. I have not had much luck finding a replacement. Starbolt has one that measure 1 3/4 in across, mine is 2 1/4 in across.  I would really like to keep as original as possible and not replace the entire 'nipple' and cap.  There are ways to make a new cap look old.  Looking for ideas or places to purchase.  'Yes' answers are welcome, but more information does help. :)
