Jack poetry was in vogue then no tv and computers.A different age it was a
form of memorising as the poems were often recited at social gatherings same
as in New Zealand one of the more famous poems for us is our National Anthem
which was the product of a national contest in the 1800s it was a poem put
to music.Still in use today although there are some who believe its time for
a change they would like to change the flag as well the problem is that
without the history the anthem and the flag have no reference point.Without
the history it loses its significance i like to treasure the historical
perspective as it makes us who we are..and we remember the people gone
before who made our nation. brent nz

Thanks Brent, but I'm no poet.
Edward Farmer was the poet. He wrote "The Colliers Dying Child" in 1846,
a real tear-jerker popular when such mawkish recitations were performed
in Victorian (UK) parlours.
I am just the parody-ist.

Hi Jack, Very good for a first poem.
If you want to see the worlds worse poem see William Topaz McGonagall's
famous poem "The Tay Bridge Disaster" See

It is so bad that it is memorable.
