I've been using epoxy to repair rotten wood for years. (The first epoxy I
used was in 1962) I get a brand called "West Systems" from a boat supply
store and have used "Smith's" also. You are replacing missing wood cells
with plastic.
There are many types available designed for many things. Quick Poly is a
good example of a special purpose chemical.

Do some on-line research, but basically: most epoxies will seal anything
they stick to but are not necessarily chemical resistant.  Thin epoxy is
best for wood rot because of the penetration. If you coat the wood with
denatured alcohol it will kill the fungus that causes the rot. You can also
use the alchol to thin the epoxy for better penetration but it make the
epoxy weaker. That's not good for structural members, but fine for windows
and such.
