Those electron/hole current flow theories only apply to the metallic portion
of the circuit.
In the electrolyte, current flow is ionic, with positive (hydrogen& metal)
ions moving from
the positive to negative electrode and negative (chlorine, oxygen, etc.)
ions moving from
the negative to positive electrode.
