[SEL] Low Tension Coils

A nice and relatively small low tension coil can be made from the coil out of a starter solenoid, the kind that sits atop the starter and pulls the gear into engagement. Just take the solenoid apart down to the coil itself. You can either use the original plunger for a core or, better, get a roll of soft iron (mechanic's wire) and cut a bundle of strands that will just fit inside the coil, long enough to stick out about an inch at both ends.
If you use a 12-Volt solenoid, it should work fine on either 6V or 12V.
If you want to make an authentic looking one, use the wire of of a solenoid to wind it.
