Several years ago, I obtained this Sattley hit and miss engine with a stuck
piston. With several excellent suggestions provided by several list members,
I was able to remove the piston using the grease pump method. Sadly, I put
this engine aside and started to work on other projects. Recently, my son
started to inquire about this Sattley. At that time, I decided to get this
engine running. Well, that day arrived today. I was able to get the engine to
run.
Now that I have the engine running, I found that the mixer adjustment is
very sensitive. After inspecting the needle valve, I noticed it was some what
rough. I fabricated a jig so I could reform the needle valve 30 degree point
on my belt grinder. After this rework was completed, I was to run the engine
again. However, the needle valve adjustment is still sensitive. The end of
the throttle valve that goes in the intake looks as if it was brazed closed
and then a small hole was drilled. The needle valve point mates internally
with this hole. Is this sensitive needle valve adjustment condition normal?
