Happy New Year everyone. It was a good thing that we ran a fire patrol 
today. As expected the diesel caused no fires at all, but an arsonist 
had set the 50' high trestle bridge alight with fireworks (by pointing 
them down into the ballast next to sleepers). I was able to put out the 
fires by digging out the ballast then using the fire pump on the 
trolley. I put a lot of water into it before it was extinguished fully.

Police attended and to my amazement actually caught a bloke who was 
hiding in the bushes lineside watching.

At least our CEO will remember my name now! I get the dubious honour of 
submitting the first Incident/Defect Report for 2008.
