[SEL] Missing Engine Manufacturers

Looking for some information the other day, I noticed (again) that
there are a lot of makers of engines from the 1940's who didn't make
it into the modern-day era.

A lot of them were merged or absorbed into other companies, many went
down after the war because they couldn't work in the new situation
after the war, but a lot just seem to have vanished without trace.

Buda, Buckeye, Harnischfeger (Might be European) Consolidated,
Hallett, Wolverine, Enterprise, Lathrop, Sheppard, Lorain, Palmer,
Washington Iron Works, US Motors, Venn-Severin, Union.

These are a few from the 1949 Diesel Manufacturer's Catalog. What
happened to them??

Lorain was the maker I was looking for, and found.
