Hi Alan

Good find, no NEW ENGINE FIND story is too long, that is what we like to
read about. Where it came from, what is was used for, and if in need of
restoration, what you did in restoring it. That is what this group is
about, you did good mate.

Good luck with you new toy.

Howdy Folks,

I sure wasn't looking for another engine.....
I was finishing up the trim work after putting a new laminate floor in my
mom's dining room today and my daughter picked up the newspaper classifieds
and found an item that she KNEW I would be interested in.

SATTLEY Gas Engine
1 1/2 hp, speed 550, $175
Ph. xxx-xxx-xxxx

Yup I was interested. 8>)))

I called the guy and he said," I have it just outside the shed and I will
start it up for you if you want me to."

Okay, It runs,,,, I asked him to tell me about the engine.
Are the flywheels solid or spoked?
He said they are solid and one of them has a starting handle built right
in,,,

So, I think,,, New Sattley,,,

I asked him what the ignition was.

He tells me it is either a coil or a buzz box. It says Wico on it.
I asked him if the Wico unit was mounted on the engine and he said it was.

Okay,, Wico EK magneto,,,, $175 ??????

I asked him where he was and when he told me I realized I was within 4 or 5
miles of his place. I told him that was MY engine and I will be there in
a few minutes to pick it up.

Sure enough I pulled in and his wife waved me back to the shed. I drove
back there and parked the truck positioned to load whatever was under that
tarp.

I had it all uncovered before he got there and what a nice older guy he was.
Sure enough, He oiled a few things, closed the choke all the way and opened
the mixer needle about a quarter turn and spun the flywheel over once.

The engine fired strong just one time then quit.

I opened the choke and cranked it a couple times, and it choked to life.
Yup he had flooded it. After about a dozen hits it cleaned up and ran
pretty good.

This engine is all original except for the farmer installed fuel tank.
The tank is a metal one gallon can laid on it's side.
Yup, the fill hole is the cap on top of the can which is now on the side of
the tank.

It is a pretty nice tank though. Whoever did it made a hole for the fuel
line and sealed the hole around the line with a grommet.

The seller said he bought it at an auction 20 years ago and it has just sat
in his shed. He thought I should paint it. Crazy man !!!!

There is dark green paint under the grunge. I think I will find it to be
about 75 to 80 percent painted. Lots of the original pin striping can
still be seen too.

Kind of funny, Dark green engine and what looks to be original skids
painted red.
Did they come that way?

I need to get the grunge off and do a boiled linseed oil treatment on it.

Sorry this got so long, but a happy guy I am. 8>)))
