If he can get at it, compress the bottom ring with a band-type ring
compressor and push the piston back up.
Cut a circular plate or plate with arcs that is just smaller than the bore
size, slot it to clear the rod, and do the same trick with the all-thread
but use the plate to bear on the piston skirt and pull it back up the bore.
