In my never ending quest for the Biggest flywheeled engines in the world I have become involved with the efforts to preserve the gigantic gas bleoing engines at Bethlehem Steel.

Think the 600 HP Snow at Coolsprings is big? You ain't seen nuthin yet!

How about a four cylinder double acting gas engine with 42" cylinders and a 28' flywheel weighing 1000 tons? How about 12 of them sitting in a row!!!

The last week of June the Tod Engine Foundation will be leading a work sesion at Bethlehem Steel to do some stabilization work on their priceless collection of blowing engines. We are looking for volunteers so if you would like to get dirty working o the largest flywheeled gas engines in the World we can use your help.

Here is a link to a discussion and pics on the Practical Machinist forum:

(the question mark needs to be in the URL)

Yes the Tod Engine is big but these are much much bigger. Hard to beliede, even I am dumbfounded looking at these beasts.

PS plans are to eventually return on to operation.
