[SEL] flat belts.....rejuvinating

This subject has been touched on many times . I was given some very nice
leather flat belts ,one had a laced join the other metal joiners [not the
crocodile type]. What is a good way to rejuvenate them as they have been in
a shed rolled up for many years . Neats foot oil and mutton fat are two such 
treatments I have in mind. As i have a good supply of Linseed oil will this 
work?
