No problem, thanks for your opinion. I normally agree with the "at home"
thing, but the weather and inaccessibility of most victims make the
Pakistan quake a particularly difficult tragedy. Also, The American UNICEF
Fund helps exclusively children, which seem to be especially at risk in
this situation. On top of that, Pakistan has been a great friend and ally
in a region of the world where we have few.
Also, each country administers/oversees its own UNICEF funds and sends it
own volunteers for the effort. As to accountability, the American fund is
very transparent and has great financials. I don't know if the funds in
other countries are as stellar in their performance though; and therefore
UNICEF criticisms often are wielded with a broad brush. In addition, the
UN's reputation in general taints an otherwise 60 year program with many
wonderful accomplishments.
