Most engines are worth the time and money to bring them back to life.  
However, this is not truly known without knowing the make and a complete evaluation 
and inspection of the major parts. As far as the mag replacement, this is 
usually a rebuild job at the most unless it has been completely broken.  As others 
have said give us some photos, make model, etc.  Maybe someone lives in you 
vicinity that could come and help you look it over and give you first hand 
advice.
