Hi Folks,

I was perusing a Spring 2002 issue of Vaporising in the French's "reading room"
and ran across the following bit in an article on restoring an 1895 split frame
(girder frame) Hornsby Ackroyd engine, 12-1/2 hp.

"The piston itself was about 12 inches across and was constructed with removable
top lands for servicing the rings. You just undo four bolts and remove the top
land, then a ring, and then so on down the piston."

OK, that's pretty wierd, but also pretty interesting.

Does anyone have any more info (like pictures) of this setup? ISTR that some of
the blokes in Oz have these girder frame Hornsby Ackroyds.

See ya, Arnie
