So there we have it...............

Is a reason given?
And why if that's proper do we see items that left the factory with it both
ways?
Perhaps because in the larger scheme of things, for some items it simply
didn't matter?
Does it matter now?

Hi Square Nutz!
Machinery's Handbook says that the proper method of nut manufacture is to
chamfer the clamping edge.
