I have a Cole vise.  It operates similar to an old blacksmith post vise.  I 
don't like it because the vise jaws work on an angle to each other as you open 
and close the jaws.  On a machinist type vise, the jaws are aways parallel to 
each other.  On the Cole vise, the ability to rotate it about it's operating 
screw axis is nice feature.
