[SEL] OT Browser Help

I have been using Mozilla Thunderbird for email for the past week and I 
can't find a way to add a signature, nor can I get it to check email 
every few minutes and automatically download it to my computer, and it 
doesn't search for email on start-up and download it.

Does anyone know where I can find the settings to get it to do this?  I 
would appreciate any help.  Please reply off-list.
