Have you given any thought to your modem ?

As cheap as they are - It ain't a bad idea to have an extra.

I had a modem that wouldn't hang up after I signed off and my phone line
stayed busy.

Once a phone call came in at the same time as my computer was dialing out
and 
blew the modem.

It may be your modem that's disconnecting.
