[SEL] Chain Falls & Little Wonder engines

Rick,
Chain falls are what i have always called them,
 Hoist, winches, etc. are similar but I have only growd up calling them
that. hang em in a tree or off something that can support the weight of
whatever you are lifting and pull on one end of the chain , it lifts the end
up, pull the other side of the chain and it lets it down,
 Some are a 1 piece continous chain, others are 2 seperate chains. I have
never heard of a 3 piece chain in one of these.. The oldest one I have had
or seen was last pat.d. in 1867, it was really old and very cool. Some were
screw differential types, others rachet and so on. inside the casing the
chain runs "doubled up" like using a come -along and having enough cable to
double back gives you 2x+ the lifting /pulling capacity.
 I am sure there are many others on the list who can explain it better
