Hi List,
Today was a great day for the Johnson Utilimotor restoration. The piston is
no longer stuck in the cylinder.
Thank goodness for this list. I think I would have several chunks of cast
iron if I did listen to good advise about taking it easy, going slow, and not
to rush.
The heat wrench was used a couple of times with liberal application of
penetration oil as the assembly cooled. Then after the unit was at a temperature
cool enough to touch, a hammer and a block of wood was used to liberate the
piston. The piston and rings are in good condition. The cylinder needs to be
honed.
The rest of the engine has been cleaned and is ready for reassembly. The
flywheel and the rear magneto brass cover plate has been glass beaded.
The magnet in the magneto needs to be re-magnetizes. However, the gentleman
who does this type of work for me has been hospitalize. Therefore, the
completion of this project will have wait until he is back at work.
Again thanks for all the excellent inputs from the members of this list.
Even though that some of the suggestions were not applicable at the time, I was
able to recall what people had recommended to accomplish similar tasks.
